General

What is shim stock?

Shim stock is a thin, flat piece of metal used to fill gaps, adjust tolerances, or provide precise spacing between parts in mechanical assemblies. It is commonly made from stainless steel, brass, or copper, and comes in a range of thicknesses—often as thin as 0.01mm. Shim stock is essential in industries like aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing, where even the smallest misalignment can affect performance. It’s available in rolls, sheets, or pre-cut shims, and is valued for its accuracy, durability, and ease of use during maintenance, repairs, or prototyping.

Which materials do you offer?
  • Stainless Steel Shim Stock (304)
  • Brass Shim Stock (CZ108)
  • Copper Copper Shim Stock (C101)
What thicknesses are available?

Thickness ranges: Stainless Steel 0.05 mm–6 mm; Brass 0.05 mm–1 mm; Copper 0.125 mm–0.5 mm. Custom gauges available on request.

Materials & Specs

What tolerance can I expect on shim thickness?

Standard ± 0.005 mm for thickness ≤ 1 mm; ± 0.01 mm for thicker stock. For tighter tolerances, precision‑ground shim stock is available—contact us for details.

What shapes and formats do you supply?

Rectangular and slotted shims, washer shims, and fully custom laser‑cut profiles. Slot dimensions can be tailored to any bolt or fastener size.

Do you provide custom laser cutting?

Yes. Upload DXF, DWG or STEP files, and we can laser‑cut stainless steel, brass or copper components to your exact CAD specifications.

Ordering & Shipping

Is there a minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

No minimum order quantity for standard stock. Custom laser‑cut orders start from a single part—ideal for prototypes or low‑volume runs.

What are your lead times?

In‑stock items ship in 1–2 business days. Custom laser parts typically ship in 2 business days, depending on complexity and order volume.

Do you supply material certificates?

Material certificates (EN 10204 3.1) are available for all orders.

How do I select the right material?

Use Stainless Steel for strength and corrosion resistance; Brass for low friction and machinability; Copper for high thermal and electrical conductivity. Need help? Our engineers are here to advise.

What is the maximum operating temperature?

Stainless Steel: up to 400 °C; Brass: up to 200 °C; Copper: up to 300 °C. For higher‑temperature applications, inquire about specialized alloys.

Can shims be reused or reworked?

Shims can be reused if undamaged. For tighter fits, thicker shims can be precision‑reground—contact our workshop for rework services.

Do you offer non‑metallic shims?

We specialize in metal shims. For non‑metallic options (plastic, composite), please contact us and we can arrange partner sourcing.

How do I measure shim thickness accurately?

Measure with a calibrated digital micrometer or feeler gauge, taking readings in multiple spots and averaging for the most accurate results.

Can I get a trade account or volume discount?

Apply for a trade account via our Contact page to access volume discounts, net 30 invoicing and priority support.
